John Beirne, Jr. CIMA®

Founding Partner, Chief Investment Officer

John established Beirne in 2012 based on his philosophy that doing what is in the best interests of clients is always mutually beneficial over the long-run. While this might sound like common sense, back when he had first started his career, it made him a true pioneer and thought leader. He was the first broker in the country to convince a public pension fund to use independent money managers in 1978, a gutsy recommendation that proved highly successful for both the client and his firm.

For most of John’s career in financial services, he has specialized in public pension fund management. His vast institutional expertise also includes private pension plans, endowments, hospitals, foundations and 401(k) plans. He founded Beirne after 3 decades at Merrill Lynch, where he served as head of Beirne Wealth Management Group.

John holds a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) designation from the Wharton School of Business. He is a 1965 graduate of the University of Connecticut, where he received a bachelor’s degree in economics. He also attended the business graduate school at the University of Bridgeport, where he studied corporate finance. He is a certificate recipient of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania for pension fund and wealth management.

John studied abroad at the INSEAD School in Fontainebleau, France, where he specialized in global corporate finance. Additionally, he has completed courses at Stanford and Harvard Universities. John has been a member of the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA) since 1987. Additionally, John is a former trustee at the Hamden Hall Country Day School, as well as a former a First Tee of Connecticut board member, and a former Connecticut Yankee Council Boy Scouts of America board member.

An avid golfer, John loves traveling, reading, biking, doing Bikram yoga and spending time with his family. He spends his time between Connecticut and Florida.
